Men's Soccer Wins First Conference Match of 2013

9/26/2013 11:55:00 PM

Box Score

The SCAD Men continued its defensive excellence by holding the Fire of Southeastern University to one lone goal in a 2-1 victory at the SCAD Sports Complex.  The Bees now stand at 3-1 overall and 1-0 in Sun Conference play.

The first half resulted in a 1-0 SCAD lead, but the defensive effort kept Southeastern on its own half of the pitch and never really threatening to score.   The Bees' defense held the Fire to only three total shots with none on goal.  The only problem was that SCAD could not capitalize on the offensive end.  Although taking twice as many shots in the half than the Fire, they could produce no more than the one goal scored by Jordan Trinci-Lyne on an assist by Theo Angus.

The Fire came out of the break with a renewed vigor.  They seemed to have enough of playing on their own end of the pitch.  But try as they might they could not seem to penetrate to the point where they had the Bees on the defensive.  In fact when Jose Izurieta scored SCAD's second goal halfway through the period it looked as if SCAD would once again take control.  But seven minutes later the Fire finally broke their drought.  Christian Bores scored a goal with the help of an assist by teammate Ashton Hicks and the lead was cut in half.

For the final fourteen minutes there were no more goals, but a lot of contact.  Players on both teams threw themselves into the scoring paths to deny any attempt at further scoring.  Fouls were plentiful, but the Bees prevailed.  It was a hard fought victory and the Bees came away with a 2-1 victory in its first conference match of the season.

There will be no rest for the men as they play again in two days.  Their opponent is another conference matchup with Ave Maria.  The match begins on Saturday at 7 pm at the SCAD Sports Complex.  The night is also a Residential Life evening.  To build up the enthusiasm and increase the decibel output there will be free pizza for all attendees.  Come out and support your Bees as they attempt to continue its winning way.  See you this Saturday.  Go Bees!!
