Men's Soccer In The Sun Conference Finals

Box Score

On paper the Bees (9-6) were not supposed to win their semifinal match. They were up against the #1 seed Embry-Riddle (13-2) who had beaten SCAD in overtime 2-1 just three weeks ago. But the Bees do not play on paper. In the playoffs, everyone is playing on adrenalin. And the Bees did not disappoint.

All season SCAD had shown a defensive strength. In their six defeats the Bees only allowed more than two goals one time (a 2-3 loss to Georgia Gwinnett); however, in those close matches the Bees could not take advantage of their opponents by pushing in the winning goals. But that was then.

In today's match the Bees scored two goals in the first half and the defense kept up its good work. When the Eagles countered with their lone goal five minutes into to the second period, the defense worked even harder. And the offensive thrust was shared among the entire SCAD attackers. Three goals were scored by three different Bees, and each goal was assisted by another three Bees. Six SCAD players contributed offensively in this semifinal victory. That is called "team" play. And that is exactly what SCAD needed to defeat Embry-Riddle on this day.

The stars of the game were plentiful because everyone contributed – the defense, the offense, and the coaching staff. The defense held the Eagles to only 6 shots on goal and Ali Bassir, the Bees' goalie, saved 5 of those 6 shots. Offensively, the scoring was a tandem effort. Giving the Bees the 1-0 lead they never lost was Alex Jamroz – assisted by Theo Angus. The 2-0 lead was provided by Jordan Trinci-Line – assisted by Will Oswin. The final goal was scored by Sergi Sauras – assisted by Jose Izurieta.

The coaching staff of Tom Melville and Richard Langthorne had a game plan and the players executed well. Everything came together on this day and the result was a 3-1 victory.

Tomorrow's contest will not be any different than today's, in that the Bees will need another "team" effort. The opponent is the #2 seed Thomas University. The Night Hawks (13-4-2) faced SCAD in the last conference match of the season. The Bees won that game 2-1. They will face off at 6 pm on Saturday. Come on Bees – BRING IT HOME!!!
