Men’s Soccer Defeats Northwood in TSC Championships

11/10/2013 2:09:00 AM

Box Score

The SCAD Men's Soccer Team used their tough defense and a surprisingly potent offense to jump out to a 3-0 advantage against a scrappy Northwood University team at the SCAD Sports Complex.  It looked as if the Bees would coast into the semifinals of the The Sun Conference Tournament Championship.  But the Seahawks had other plans.

The Seahawks came out of the intermission dedicated to make a game of it.  Three minutes into the second half Northwood broke their scoreless streak and made it 3-1.  Forty-five seconds later they cut it to 3-2.  The Bees knew they were in for a battle if they were going to advance in the tournament.

SCAD's defense held the Seahawks at bay until the 76 minute mark of the 90 minute contest.  It was then that the heart of the 100 fans skipped a beat as Northwood tied the match at 3-3.  The next six minutes of play took on a smash and crash feel.  Players knew that the time was running out and they had to take chances.  They had to press.  They had to give it the extra effort just to make that one score.  Players were taking falls.  Injury pauses were plentiful.  It was a real battle.

But the Seahawks were broken on a score by Alex Jamroz on a fantastic feed by Jordan Trinci-Lyne.  With two Seahawks on him, Trinci-Lyne managed to deliver a pass to Jamroz who did not fail to take advantage of the opportunity before him.  He places a perfect shot to the right corner of the Northwood goal.  The Bees had regained the lead at 4-3.

This time the Bees did not fail.  Their defense kept the attacking Seahawks at midfield.  They could not penetrate to pose a threat.  The Bees prevailed.  When the horn sounded every SCAD fan was physically spent.  It was that kind of a match.

Tom Rouine scored his first two goals of the season and Jamroz scored his third.  Jose Izurieta scored his fourth.  In the nine matches before this evening the Bees had scored more than two goals only one time.  The four goals on this day was a great sight to see.  They will definitely need this offense when they play their next match.  They will be facing the number 1 seed Embry-Riddle in their semifinal match.

The Bees will have a week to prepare for Embry-Riddle.  They play their match on November 15 at 7:30 pm.  SCAD will be looking to avenge the 0-1 overtime loss that the Eagles gave the Bees back in October.  Hopefully, this time will be different.  Go Bees!!!
