Bees Down St. Thomas 2-1 in Soccer Telecast

Box Score

The Men's Soccer Team improved its overall record to 5-3 (3-2 in conference play) with a 2-1 victory over conference rival St. Thomas.  The victory was particularly sweet in that the match was telecast by Tourbeau Sports and was seen free of charge to all soccer enthusiasts nationwide.

Once again the Bees found themselves in a defensive mode.  Not that the Bobcats of St. Thomas gave SCAD much pressure in that they only took a total of two shots on goal, but rather the victory was due in great part to the defensive wall that the Bees established.  The Bobcats only took 6 shots the whole game, while the Bees took eleven.

Thanks to selfless team play SCAD's Will Oswin was able to score both goals for the Bees.  Coach Tom Melville had this to say about the Bees' offense, "I felt that we had the right game plan in the first half and put a great deal of pressure on [St. Thomas] early on.  It worked and we wer rewarded by a goal with some good combination play.  It was an unselfish pass fro Sergi Sauras for the assist for Will Oswin's first goal."   Oswin scored the game winner on another assist - this time by Alex Jamroz -  at the midpoint of the second half of play.

All season the Bees have been stingy with their goals allowed.  The defense has been consistent, although Melville believes that the team can still improve that area.  If that is the case, then the forecast is good for the Bees to make a run in the TSC playoffs.  Five more consecutive conference matches remain in the season.

The good news is that the Bees are only 2 games behind the 1st place Embry-Riddle team (5-0), and 1 and a half games behind the 2nd place Thomas University team (4-0).  The last two conference matches of the season are against these two teams.

SCAD's next match is against conference foe Florida Memorial (0-3) in Miami, Florida on Oct. 13 at 3 p.m.  Go Bees!!  Let's keep it going.
