The Men's Soccer team is on a roll. By defeating the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University Saturday afternoon the Bees increased their winning streak to three games – the last two by shutouts. With their 3-0 victory the Bees moved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
The victory was a result of a team effort from the Bees. The first half was a strong defensive effort as SCAD's Goalkeeper
Josh Brown saved two shots on goal, while the remaining players held the Gyrenes to a total of only four shots the whole first half.
The second half was a different story – at least for the Bees. In the first twelve minutes the teams fiercely battled for position. Seven fouls with only one shot taken during the first 12 minutes of the second half was reminiscent of what transpired for the first 45-minutes of the 1
st half. But
Alex Jamroz and
Steve Dowling changed the stalemate at the 58:24 mark. Dowling set up Jamroz with a crossing kick and Jamroz put it between the goalie's legs to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. This seemed to jettison the Bees because nine minutes later
Chris Gowar found
Jose Izurieta-Herrera in front of the Gyrenes' goal. Herrera headed it in for a 2-0 lead. Six minutes later it was another Bees' tandem that gave SCAD its final score of the match.
Pato Torello found
Jordan Trinci-Lyne open and Trinci-Lyne did not disappoint. All in all six different Bees were involved in the scoring for the evening.
Coach
Tom Melville had this to say about his team's play, “We dominated possession for the first half, but had nothing to show for it. We were forcing things in the final third and needed to be more patient. The second half was evidence of our potential when we play simple and quick. Total possession football!"
It was indeed a team victory.
SCAD ends its current string of three road matches on 9/28 when they take on Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida. The men return to the SCAD Sports Complex to play Webber International on 9/30 to play an afternoon game at 3:00 p.m. Come out and support your Bees.
