Box Score
Coming into the match with the Lions of Florida Memorial the Bees had allowed only 8 goals in the previous 8 contests. Only one of those opponents has scored more than one goal in any of the matches.
Tom Melville's crew has been very stingy when it comes to opponent's scoring. Today's match against a team that stood at 2-1-1 in conference play would continue that trend.
In the first period the Bees defense seemed to rise to the occasion as it limited the Lions to a miserly one shot on goal. The problem was that SCAD also could not penetrate an FMU defense that equaled the Bees. After a very hard fought period where there were four yellow cards and eight fouls it was being wondered if anyone would be able to break the offensive drought.
It was not until the 74:32 minute mark in the contest that
Brinton Nute, on an assist from
Jose Izurieta-Herrera, was able to break a scoreless tie. Three minutes later
Jordan Trinci-Lyne gave
Alex Jamroz a good feed for another score. And the Bees' defense did not let up. Over the course of ninety minutes of play SCAD allowed only three shots on goal. It was a defensive day.
When the final horn sounded, the Bees had recorded its 4
th shutout of the season. The 2-0 win moved SCAD to 6-4-1 overall record and to 4-1-1 in conference play. Goalie
Josh Brown played a good game allowing no goals while recording three saves.
Hopefully, the good defensive play will continue into its next match. The Bees will face The Sun Conference leader Northwood University on October 11th at 2 pm. The Seahawks will bring a 10-2 overall record and a 6-0 conference record to the SCAD Sports Complex. Come out and support your Bees as they press towards a high seed in The Sun Conference Championship.
