Men's Soccer Takes Loss to St. Thomas in TSC Play

10/6/2012 9:13:00 AM

Box Score
The Bees brought a 5-3-1 overall record to the SCAD Sports Complex (3-0-1 in conference play) to face off against conference leader St. Thomas (4-2-1; 4-0).  It was a tale of two periods.  Things looked good for the SCAD Men's Soccer Team as they got off to an early 3-goal lead in its match with the Bobcats.  The Bees were the better team in the opening period as they demonstrated why they had won 5 of their last 6 matches.

Jordan Trinci-Lyne with an assist from William Oswin gave the Bees its lead at the 32:36 mark.  Five minutes later Oswin scored on an assist from Jose Izurieta-Herrera to make it 2-0.  The half ended with SCAD in control of the match.

For the first eight minutes of the second period it seemed that it would be a defensive affair as each team countered each other's offensive thrusts with sound defensive play.  No scores were tallied until SCAD's Pato Torello received a beautiful setup from Izurieta-Herrera for a slicing goal to give the Bees a 3-0 lead.

The score seemed to rejuvenate the Bobcats.  It was less than a minute later, at the 53:56 mark, that St. Thomas finally penetrated the Bees' defense to score its first goal.  Sad to say, it would not be their last.  Still, things looked good for the Bees as they pressed and countered the offensive thrusts of the Bobcats, but with 16 minutes left in the match they cut the deficit to 3-2 with a shot that Josh Brown was able to save, but could not defend the rebound.

When the Bobcats scored once again with eleven minutes remaining, there seemed to be a definite momentum change.  The Bees were continually on the defensive with the score knotted at 3-3.  The heartbreaking final score of the match came with four minutes left in the contest.  The Bees had no answer for St. Thomas as they saw a 3-0 lead vanish in a matter of 35 minutes.  Final score – St. Thomas 4  SCAD 3.

SCAD has little time to rebound from this loss.  On October 7, at 3:00 pm, the Bees play host to another conference team, Florida Memorial.  The Lions bring a 4-4-1 overall record to the SCAD Sports Complex.  With five conference matches remaining the Bees are in still very much in the hunt for a conference championship.  Come out and support the men as they pursue the title.
