DULUTH, Ga. – Jordy McManus scored three times and
Mike McQuaid scored twice as the SCAD Savannah men's lacrosse team captured the program's first-ever Southeastern Lacrosse Conference Division II Tournament title with an 8-7 victory over Elon University Sunday (May 1) afternoon at Northview High School.
The Bees, who are ranked No. 9 in the Prodigy MCLA Division II Top 25 poll, improved to a university-best 15-4 as they earned the SELC's automatic berth to the 2011 MCLA Division II National Tournament that will be held May 17-21 in Denver, Colo. It will be the second consecutive trip to nationals for the Bees as they earned an at-large berth in 2010.
With the Bees holding a 7-6 advantage late in the contest,
Darren Martin scooped up one of his three ground balls across the midfield. He found McManus who deposited it in the back of the next for a big insurance goal. It proved to be big as the 13th-ranked Phoenix would score one more time and SCAD was able to run the clock out for the victory.

Wade Winebrenner (six) and
Kreyton Polka (four) combined for 10 saves in net for the Bees.
SCAD had six players – McManus,
Dan Comite, Martin,
Justin Sicard, McKay and McQuaid - named to the all-tournament team Comite was named the Defensive Player of the Tournament. Martin was recognized as the tournament's best long stick midfielder. Sicard, who won 10 of the 14 faceoffs against Elon, was honored as the tournament's top face-off specialist.
