ELON, N.C. – SCAD Savannah withstood an Elon University rally in the fourth quarter to pull out a 12-10 men's lacrosse victory over the Phoenix Friday (April 8) evening.
The Bees (10-4), who are ranked ninth in the latest Prodigt MCLA Division II Top 25 poll, led 16th-ranked Elon 10-4 at the start of the fourth quarter before the Phoenix reeled off six unanswered goals to tie the match at 10 with 7:30 remaining.
Shelton Polka gave the Bees the lead for good with two goals over the next four minutes.
Polka led the Bees with three goals and 11 ground balls while
Trey McKay,
Jordy McManus,
Mike McQuaid each registered two goals apiece.
Justin Sicard,
Derek Shurson and
Chris Smith each had one goal in the Bees' fifth consecutive win. McKay also contributed two assists while Sicard, Shurson and
Matt Dean had one. Sicard won 11 face-offs for the Bees, while
Cody Hoerauf (five) and
Michael Molinaro (four) combined to collect nine ground balls.
SCAD closes out its regular season April 16 with a 7 p.m. match against Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga.
