SCAD took on ERAU in the Conference final in Miami today, after winning the semifinal 4-0 yesterday. In the words if Head Coach
Tom Melville the final scoring line does not tell the whole story. "Today's final was really lost yesterday" said Coach Melville. "The sending off of Bees
Jean Morana, with 40 minutes to go and with a comfortable lead in yesterdays semi, meant the Bees had to work their tails off to make certain of their advancement into today's final. This is what seemed to hinder the Bees today!"
The heavy legs, meant that the Bees had to sit in against Riddle and hoped to hit them on the counter attack. The tactics worked for 105 minutes before the Bees' impenetrable wall suddenly fell. In the second period of overtime, after a Riddle corner, the Bees stepped up on a clearance. Riddle knocked a through ball and their striker, who appeared to be offside, stuck the sudden death winner away. It was a valiant effort by the Bees who had actually beaten Riddle (1-0), earlier in the year. The Bees had redeemed their only other conference losses by defeating #1 seed St. Thomas and #4 seed, Northwood (in pk's) during post season play.
This was the third consecutive conference final appearance for the Bees. It is now back to the drawing board for next year. Congratulations to Coach Melville and the Men's Soccer team for an exciting and successful season. Go Bees!
