Bees, Lions battle to 2-2 overtime draw

MIAMI - The Savannah College of Art and Design and Florida Memorial University battled to a 2-2 double overtime draw in a The Sun Conference men's soccer match Friday (Sept. 4) afternoon.

The Bees remained unbeaten as they improved to 2-0-1 overall and to 2-0-1 inside the conference while the Lions, who are in their inaugural season, improved to 2-2-1 and 0-1-1. SCAD returns to action at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 8) when they will face league-foe St. Thomas (Fla.) University in Miami.

Florida Memorial took a 1-0 lead on a Mariano Vivenzio score at the 21:43 mark off a Bernard Louis assist. It was the first goal the Bees had surrendered this season (201:43). The Bees leveled the match at 1 on Ellert Hreinsson's team-leading fourth goal of the season 12 minutes later off a Ryan Middleton assist.

Middleton gave the Bees, who outshot the Lions 31-20 (13-10 on goal), a 2-1 advantage with just over 20 minutes remaining in regulation as Hreinsson returned the favor. The Lions forced the extra time when Luis Carlos Ledezma tied the match with an unassisted goal with 8:42 left.
