Hreinsson's hat trick defeats Webber International 3-1

Ellert Hreinsson's first career hat trick was the difference as the Savannah College of Art and Design recorded a 3-1 The Sun Conference men's soccer victory over Webber International University Wednesday (Oct. 21) evening at the SCAD Athletics Complex.

The Bees improved to 9-3-2 overall and to 6-1-1 in the league while the Warriors slipped to 7-7-0 and 3-4-0. SCAD returns to action Sunday (Oct. 25) for a 3 p.m. conference match at the SCAD Athletics Complex.

Hreinsson, a junior from Kopaogur, Iceland, gave the Bees a 1-0 lead 67 seconds before halftime as he took Josiah Millar's pass in the box and knocked it past WIU goalkeeper Andres Zwaans into the right corner of the goal.

Hreinsson, who has scored five goals in the past two matches, doubled SCAD's lead in the 58th minute after a Warrior foul outside of the box. Dan Fadida touched it to Ryan Middleton who found Hreinsson open in the box.

Webber International cut the lead in half at 2-1 50 seconds later as Manuel Martes knocked in a loose ball in the box. Hreinsson, who leads the team with 12 goals, added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute on a blast into the upper right corner of the goal off a Middleton pass.
