Zoltan Tompos and
Jan Gastal have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American First Team.
Tompos has proven to be a powerhouse for the program, anchoring a season defined by elite-level performance. At the conference level, he secured a championship title in the 800m freestyle relay and earned All-Conference honors across the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle events. His momentum carried onto the national stage, where he reached the pinnacle of the sport as a National Champion in the 800m freestyle relay. Additionally, his versatility earned him All-American status in the 100m and 200m freestyle, as well as the 200m and 400m relay events.
Beyond his athletic prowess, Tompos has maintained a rigorous standard of academic excellence. Balancing the demands of a high-level training schedule with his studies, he maintains a 3.75 GPA as a Graphic Design major.
Gatal's contributions to the team's success this year have been nothing short of historic. A key component of the championship relay squads, Gastal captured a conference title in the 800m freestyle relay and earned All-Conference recognition in both the 100m and 200m freestyle. On the national level, Jan reached the top of the podium as a National Champion in the 800m freestyle, further cementing a legacy of excellence with All-American honors in the 200m freestyle relay and the 400m relay.
In the classroom, Gastal's performance is equally impressive, boasting a stellar 3.79 GPA. Pursuing a degree in Sequential Art, Jan has demonstrated a unique ability to master the technical complexities of visual storytelling while competing as an elite swimmer.
To be eligible for this award the student-athlete must ha at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. They must also compete in 75% of team competition or finish in the top eight at the conference meet or participate in the national championship.
