Equestrian Wins ANRC National and Novice Division National Titles

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The 2026 ANRC National Intercollegiate and Junior Equitation Championship presented by WSJ Foundation was hosted by the ANRC advisory board at The McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Md. and the Bees won both the National and Novice Division National Titles.
 
ANRC is a three-day competition with four different phases of competition. There are two different levels/heights of jumps, and riders are placed into teams of three at each level. SCAD had two teams of riders entered at the 3' and the 2'6" levels. In each phase, competitors receive individual scores from two judges that are averaged, and a percentage of that score combines to the overall teams at the end of the competition. The written test is 5% of the score, the program ride/ equitation flat test is 35% of the score, the derby jumping phase is 30% of the score, and the medal jumping round is 30% of the score.
 
SCAD teams at each level were Team SCAD BEES, and TEAM Black and Yellow.
 
Novice Level
Team SCAD BEES:
Jr- Emily Arriaga mounted on Quinn
Jr- Lauren Simoneau mounted on Ultra
Jr. McKenna Lewis mounted on Moose
 
Team Black and Yellow:
Fr- Nathaniel Biery mounted on Crumble
Jr- Mackenzie Paul mounted on Camelito
Jr- Ariana Bowman mounted on Bali
 
The competition started Friday evening with the written test; Team SCAD BEES won that phase, with Team Black and Yellow in second. Team SCAD BEES individual riders Emily Arriaga took the win in that phase, and Lauren Simoneau was second.
 
National Level
Team SCAD BEES:
Jr- Alex Miller mounted on Bon Bon
Jr- Peter Cavagnac mounted on Harvey
Sr- Kayla Bardgett mounted on Bettina
 
Team Black and Yellow:
Fr- Henry Hollis mounted on Amaretto
Jr- Addie Keyworth mounted on Liam
Jr- Ella Luhn mounted on KS Edgewood (Enzo)
 
At the National level in the written phase, Team Black and Yellow won, with Team SCAD BEES in second. The individual winner for the National written phase was Ella Luhn from team Black and Yellow and second went to Peter Cavagnac on team SCAD BEES.
 
The second day of the competition started with the Program ride flat test followed by the derby. 
For the Novice level, the Team winners were Team Black and Yellow. Individual winner for the phase was from Team Black and Yellow, Makenzie Paul.
 
At the National level, the team winners were Team SCAD BEES, and second went to Team Black and Yellow. Team SCAD BEES took the Top two honors in that phase with Peter Cavagnac taking the win, and Kayla Bardgett earning second. 
 
In the Derby phase at the Novice level, Team Black and Yellow earned second place. From Team SCAD BEES, Emily Arriaga had the individual win.
 
The Derby at the National level was a win for Team SCAD BEES, and second for Team Black and Yellow. Team SCAD Bees had the top two honors again with Peter Cavagnac winning and Kayla Bardgett in second. 
 
The final day of competition was the Medal round, and Team Black and Yellow were second in that phase. From team Black and Yellow individual rider Nathaniel Biery was second.
 
The National level results for the medal round went with the win to team SCAD BEES and second to Black and Yellow. The individual winner for that phase was Alex Miller from SCAD BEES and second went to Peter Cavagnac also from SCAD BEES.

Peter Cavagnac won the Marion Lee Sportsmanship Award as well.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will compete in the final event of the season, the IHSA National Championships, on April 30-May 3 at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Tryon, N.C.
