HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The SCAD equestrian team proudly hosted the IHSA Zone 5 Championship on Saturday and was named the Champions to advance to the IHSA National Championship.
Thirty-one colleges from within Zone 5 were represented at the competition with riders competing in individually qualified classes and the Top five regional schools competing in specific team classes.
TEAM RESULTS: The top two teams advance to IHSA Nationals in Tryon, N.C. on May 1-3.

Reserve Champion - Berry College - Rome GA - 36
3 - College of Charleston- Charleston, SC - 34
4 - University of the South - Sewanee, TN - 32
5- Texas State University - San MArcos, TX - 16
TEAM RIDER RESULTS: The following riders represented SCAD in the team classes.
Alex Alston - SR - 1st Open Over Fences, 1st Open Flat
Alex Miller - SO - 2nd Intermediate Over Fences
Peter Cavagnac- JR - 3rd Intermediate Flat
Nathaniel Biery - FS - 1st Limit Over Fences, 1st Limit Flat
Madison Poulin -SR- 5th Novice Flat
Sophia Inglesias- SO- 1st Introductory
INDIVIDUAL RIDER RESULTS: SCAD had five individual riders qualified to compete in six classes. The top two advance on to IHSA Nationals.
After an over fences round, followed by a flat round with no stirrups work,
Alex Alston was Champion in Cacchione Cup Qualifier Class.
Kayla Bardgett – SR - competed against 10 other riders where they tested on the flat without stirrups, then the top four riders were selected and asked to swap horses then continued with more testing. Bardgett was Champion in the Open Equitation on the Flat!
Peter Cavagnac - JR - competed in two individual classes with 10 riders in each class. Cavagnac was Champion in the Limit Equitation Over Fences and Champion in Limit Equitation on the Flat.
Lexie Stoebenau - SR, and
Ellie Maxwell – SR - competed against another 10 individuals in the Novice Equitation on the Flat. Stoebenau was Champion and Maxwell finished fourth.
The Bees had an incredible day, and are looking forward to competing against the 16 other Zone Champion teams as well as the top 16 individual Zones champion riders!
WHAT'S NEXT? SCAD will travel to the ANRC National Championships on April 8-12.
