HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — The No. 3 SCAD Savannah women's lacrosse team kept its winning streak alive on Saturday morning, overwhelming Sun Conference opponent New College of Florida with a 25-2 victory on senior day.
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 8-2 (3-0 SUN) on the season, while the Banyans fall to 4-7 (0-2 SUN).
The Bees honored their four seniors before the game:
Lorna Fowles,
Annise Berkeley,
Sophia Bluso and
Chloe Zundel.
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD established its dominance immediately, pouring in 11 goals in the first quarter while limiting New College to just one.
McKinsey Brown set the tone by scoring the first goal just over a minute into the contest, quickly followed by a man-up goal from
Ellen Benintendi. The relentless offensive pressure resulted in 17 total shots in the opening frame alone.
The Bees continued their offensive onslaught in the second quarter, outscoring the Banyans 4-1. A unique highlight came with less than five minutes remaining in the half when goalkeeper
Lorna Fowles, contributing on the offensive end, found the back of the net to help extend the SCAD lead to 15-2 heading into the break.
In the second half, the Bees' defense completely shut down the New College attack, holding them scoreless for the final 30 minutes of play. Meanwhile, SCAD added four goals in the third quarter and six more in the fourth. The team shared the ball exceptionally well, capitalizing on four power-play goals throughout the game and maintaining a disciplined effort to secure the commanding 25-2 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Ellen Benintendi led the charge with an impressive nine points coming on a double hat trick and three assists. She also added nine draw control wins.
- McKinsey Brown and Annise Berkeley had the second most points with eight. Brown scored five goals and tallied three assists while A. Berkeley notched six assists and two goals.
- Lilah Herold contributed five points, finishing with a hat trick and two assists.
- Karley Holland and Riley O'Keefe each added two goals to contribute to the Bees' dominance.
- The defensive unit was stifling, forcing 21 turnovers as a team. Riley O'Keefe and Mollie Geiger led the effort with four each. O'Keefe and Geiger each tallied more turnovers than the entire Banyan's team.
- Goalies Chloe Zundel and Lorna Fowles split time in the cage. Zundel earned the win, making four saves in the first half, while Fowles preserved the shutout in the second half.
