MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The No. 3 SCAD Savannah women's lacrosse team kept its dominant run through the Sun Conference rolling, overpowering St. Thomas University in a 23-2 road victory on Thursday afternoon.
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 9-2 (4-0 SUN) on the season, picking up another crucial conference win on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD established complete control from the opening whistle, suffocating the St. Thomas attack while exploding for eight goals in the first quarter. Karlie Holland and
McKinsey Brown powered the offense early as the Bees built an 8-0 cushion in the opening 15 minutes.
The relentless offensive execution continued into the second quarter. SCAD added seven more goals to the scoreboard while the defensive unit, anchoring down in front of goalkeeper
Marleigh Burritt, who hasn't surrendered a goal thus far. The Bees took a commanding 15-0 advantage into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Bees showcased the depth of their roster, spreading the ball around and finding scoring contributions from all over the field. SCAD held St. Thomas scoreless in the third quarter while adding three goals, and capped off the afternoon with five goals in the final frame to easily secure the 23-2 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- McKinsey Brown turned in a dominant offensive performance, finishing with a game-high eight points on six goals and two assists.
- Ellen Benintendi was a scoring machine, netting five goals to help lead the Bees' attack.
- Karley Holland recorded a hat trick and dished out one assist for a four-point outing, while adding three ground balls.
- Annise Berkeley played a key role as a facilitator, handing out a team-high three assists.
- Lilah Herold contributed one goal and one assist, along with four ground balls.
- The Bees saw goals from all across the roster, with Kellen Berkeley, Maddie Krohn, Paige Frias, Mia Andre, Riley O'Keefe, Marygrace Gordon, and Mollie Geiger, each finding the back of the net once.
- Maddie Krohn dominated the center circle, securing a team-high five draw controls to go along with her goal and four ground balls.
- Goalies Marleigh Burritt and Lorna Fowles split time in the cage. Burritt earned the start and kept a clean sheet in her 30 minutes of action, recording four saves. Fowles closed out the game with three saves in the second half.
