WILSON, N.C. — The No. 5 SCAD Savannah women's lacrosse team continued its perfect start to the season, securing a 16-4 win over NCAA DII Barton College on Saturday morning.
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Bulldogs drop to 1-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD overcame a 1-0 deficit to dominate the final three quarters of play. Barton opened the scoring early, but
Lilah Herold answered with two unassisted goals to give the Bees a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.
The second quarter saw the Bees find their rhythm, outscoring the Bulldogs 6-1.
Ellen Benintendi and
Kellen Berkeley led the charge both notching three goals each to help SCAD reach an 8-2 lead at the half.
SCAD broke the game open in the third quarter with a 7-1 run. Herold, K. Berkeley, and Benintendi all found the back of the net before
Maddy Hahn,
Annise Berkeley and
McKinsey Brown capped off the quarter with goals of their own, pushing the lead to 15-3. The Bees added one final power-play goal from
Paige Frias in the fourth quarter to seal the 16-4 result.
