No. 8 Men’s Lacrosse Finishes Regular Season with Dominating Win

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – The No. 8 SCAD men's lacrosse team finished the regular season on Saturday with a dominating 20-5 win over Montreat College.
 
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 9-5, 5-4 AAC, while the Cavaliers are now 2-14, 1-8 AAC.
 
DID YOU KNOW? This is the first season since 2013 in which SCAD has won nine games.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Montreat scored the first goal of the game to take a short 1-0 lead as the Bees responded not even a minute later to tie it at one-all with 9:24 on the clock. Four more goals for SCAD in the first quarter, to the Cavaliers' one gave the Bees a 5-2 lead going into the second quarter.
 
SCAD scored five goals in the second, while a Bees' defense held Montreat scoreless to give SCAD a 10-2 lead heading into halftime.
 
Six goals from the Bees to start the third quarter brought the score to 16-2 before the Cavaliers scored the last two goals of the third, bringing the score to 16-4 in favor of the Bees going into the final quarter.
 
In the fourth quarter, SCAD scored two goals before Montreat got on the board at the 5:40 mark, and that would be the last goal for the Cavaliers as the Bees went on to score two more to earn the 20-5 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: SCAD's defense held Montreat to only 17 shots while causing 15 turnovers. Jake Kozak led the defense with a game-high four caused turnovers, while Sebastian Manuel followed with two.
 
Goalies Luke Lamendola, Joe DeCeglia, and Noah Miller split time in the cage with Lamendola and Miller totaling two saves, and DeCeglia added one.
 
Sebastian Manuel and Jordan Reeves led the offensive charge for the Bees, totaling five goals each, with Manuel adding one assist for a game-high six points.
 
Mason Hickman added four goals, while Michael Mowers totaled two. Theron Turnbull, Vihaan Patel, Evan Baker, and Phoenix McCreadie each had one goal, with Turnbull adding two assists and Mowers adding one assist.
 
At the face-off, Kevin Curry went 11-13 with three ground balls, while Lucas Martinez went 10-15 with five ground balls.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will travel to No. 4 University of the Cumberlands for an Appalachian Athletic Conference quarterfinal on Saturday, April 20.
