SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 4 SCAD women's lacrosse team hosted No. RV Ave Maria at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday morning, and a fourth-quarter surge propelled the Bees to a 16-13 win.
RECORDS: The Bees are now 8-5, 3-0 SUN, while the Gyrenes are 4-4, 1-1 SUN.
100 DRAW CONTROLS: The first draw control of the game went to
Clarke Haas, who earned her 100th career draw, while the second draw control was taken by
Annise Berkeley, who also earned her 100
th career draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD took a quick 2-0 lead to start the game, but Ave Maria answered with two goals of their own to tie it 2-2 with four minutes remaining in the quarter. The Bees scored two more goals to end the first quarter up 4-2.
Four consecutive goals to start the second quarter gave SCAD an 8-2 lead with 6:18 on the clock. The Gyrenes managed two goals to end the quarter as the Bees took an 8-4 lead into halftime.
Ave Marie had a big third quarter, outscoring SCAD 6-2 to knot the game at 10-all heading into the final quarter.
The Bees responded with their own six-goal quarter to earn the 16-13 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Clarke Haas totaled four goals and one assist, while
MaryGrace Gordon totaled three goals and two assists, both for a game-high five points.
Emma Roch totaled three goals and one assist, while
Brielle Bouchard,
Keagan Plume, and
Ainsley Jones totaled two goals and one assist each.
Annise Berkeley totaled eight draw controls, with
Clarke Haas adding three and
Ainsley Jones adding two.
Goalies
Chloe Zundel and
Lorna Fowles split time in the cage, and both tallied two saves.
