Men’s Swimming Finish Fifth at the NAIA Championships, Women Place Seventh

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The SCAD men's and women's swimming teams competed at the 2024 NAIA National Championships March 6-9, with the men finishing fifth and the women seventh.
 
TEAM SCORES: The men finished the three-day competition with 331 points, putting them in fifth place. St. Thomas University won the National Championship with 640.5 points.
 
On the women's side, the Bees placed seventh with 243 points, while Keiser University finished first with 655.5 points.
 
ALL-AMERICAN FINISHES: The top eight individuals and relay teams earn All-American honors. The Bees totaled 14 2024 All-Americans and eight relay All-American finishes.
 
Men: In the 200-yard medley relay, Samuel Page, Nazar Sementsov, Bo Kasten, and Jan Gastal finished in seventh with a time of 1:29.05.
 
Wyatt Smith, Zoltan Tompos, Jan Gastal, and Dietrich Hagenau finished seventh in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
 
Zoltan Tompos finished fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:32.59, while Wyatt Smith finished in seventh with a time of 4:35.50.
 
In the 50-yard freestyle, Samuel Page finished in third with a time of 20.08.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Samuel Page, Zoltan Tompos, Alec Dixon, and Jan Gastal placed fourth with a time of 1:21.65.
 
Jan Gastal finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.23.
 
With a time of 50.00, Finlay Saunders finished the 100-yard backstroke in eighth place.
 
In the 400-yard medley relay, Finlay Saunders, Nazar Sementsov, Bo Kasten, and Jan Gastal placed fifth with a time of 3:19.70.
 
Finlay Saunders finished sixth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:48.72.
 
In the 100-yard freestyle, Jan Gastal finished in sixth with a time of 44.87, while Zoltan Tompos placed eighth with a time of 44.69.
 
Samuel Page, Zoltan Tompos, Jake Litchfield, and Jan Gastal finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:59.16.
 
Women: The 200-yard medley relay team of Romane Cayla, Nikki Hahn, Mia Thatcher, and Ellie Alexander finished in seventh with a time of 1:46.25.
 
Haley VanBuskirk took third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:03.20, and Sky Marjamaa finished fourth with a time of 5:04.80.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle, Haley VanBuskirk finished in fifth with a time of 1:52.49.
 
Nikki Hahn took third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.85.
 
In the 400-yard medley relay, Romane Cayla, Nikki Hahn, Mia Thatcher, and Haley VanBuskirk finished in seventh with a time of 3:55.44.
 
With a time of 2:15.62, Nikki Hahn placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke.
 
In the 200-yard butterfly, Mia Thatcher finished in eighth with a time of 2:11.06.
 
DAKTRONICS NAIA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES: The 2024 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete honorees were released prior to the start of the National Championships, and the Bees totaled eight.
 
The 2024 list features 337 student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at their institution. To be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport, and have attended one full year at said institution.
