Women’s Soccer Advances to NAIA Nationals Final Site for the First Time in School History

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - The No. 13 SCAD Savannah women's soccer team made history Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 22 Georgia Gwinnett College 4-1 to advance to the NAIA National Championship Final Site for the first time in program history. 

RECORDS: The Bees improve to 16-1-2 on the season, while Georgia Gwinnett ends their campaign at 12-7-2. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD dominated from the opening whistle, outshooting their opponents 24-4 over the course of the match. The Bees struck first in the 10th minute when Sydney Chura's effort led to an own goal by Georgia Gwinnett. Abigail Siddall doubled the lead just before halftime in the 42nd minute to give SCAD a 2-0 advantage heading into the break. 

Georgia Gwinnett showed life early in the second half when Gabriela Rosas found the net in the 46th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, SCAD's offensive prowess proved too much as Siddall notched her second goal of the match and 21st of the season in the 70th minute off an assist from Chura. Ida Akesson sealed the historic victory in the 80th minute with her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Ines Sommer

KEY PERFORMERS: 

  • Abigail Siddall: Recorded a brace with two goals while leading all players with eight shots, six on target 

  • Sydney Chura: Provided two assists and recorded seven shots in a dynamic attacking display 

  • Ines Sommer: Generated constant pressure with five shots and provided an assist on the final goal 

  • Ida Akesson: Scored the fourth goal while controlling the midfield 

WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees advance to the NAIA National Championship Final Site (Round of 16) for the first time in program history. The tournament will be held in Pensacola, Florida, where the Bees will take on Spring Arbour on Monday.
