No. RV Men’s Soccer Advances to SUN Final with Upset Win Over No. 6 St. Thomas

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The No. RV SCAD men's soccer team will be hosting the Sun Conference Final on Thursday thanks to a 3-2 upset win over No. 6 St. Thomas University on Monday night.
 
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 11-4-2, while the Bobcats are now 13-3-1.
 
DID YOU KNOW? This is the first time since 2014 in which SCAD has advanced to a Sun Conference Final.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: St. Thomas jumped to an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the seventh minute.
 
In the 14th minute, Moritz Prattes took a shot that was saved. German Moreno fired a shot on the rebound that hit the post, and then Prattes drew a foul in the box to give SCAD the penalty kick. Mario Goic converted the penalty kick to tie the game at one-all.
 
Caio Lara crossed the ball into the box for Goic, who was fouled, drawing another penalty kick. Goic converted the PK to give the Bees the 2-1 lead in the 40th minute.
 
SCAD scored the insurance goal in the 66th minute. Murilo Lara won the ball in midfield and passed it up to Raffael Mohr, who found the bottom corner of the net to bring the score to 3-1.
 
The Bobcats scored in the 81st minute to come within one (3-2), but it was not enough, as the Bees held on to clinch the 3-2 win.
 
RECORD-BREAKING WIN: With this win, goalie Connor Friel earned his 11th win of the season, giving him 25 for his career.
 
KEY PERFORMERS:
  • Mario Goic converted two penalty kicks, showcasing his composure under pressure.
  • Raffael Mohr scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Murilo Lara.
  • Connor Friel totaled three saves in his 90 minutes of work to earn his 11th win of the season.
WHAT'S NEXT: The No. 2 seeded Bees will host No. 4 seeded Southeastern University on Thursday, November 14, at the SCAD Athletics Complex. Come out and support the Bees.
