AVE MARIA, Fla. – The SCAD men's soccer team picked up its eighth win of the season with a 3-1 win over Ave Maria University on Thursday.
RECORDS: The Bees are now 8-3-2, 4-1-0 SUN, while the Gyrenes fall to 2-10-2, 0-6-1 SUN.
DID YOU KNOW? This is the first season since 2017 in which SCAD has won eight regular season games. In 2017, the Bees went 8-9, 5-4 SUN.
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD took an early lead when
Daire Russell scored a header shot off an assist and corner kick from
Tim Rothe in the 11
th minute. Neither team scored for the remainder of the half as the Bees took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
To start the second half,
Caio Lara doubled SCAD's lead to go up 2-0 at the 54:09 mark. Thirty minutes later, Ave Maria answered with a goal of their own to cut the Bees' lead to 2-1, but it would not be enough as
Mario Goic scored in the 90
th minute to end the game with a 3-1 win.
KEY PERFORMERS:
- Daire Russell scored the first goal of the game and led a Bees' defense that held the Gyrenes to one goal.
