HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The SCAD men's soccer team hosted No. 3 St. Thomas University and lost 6-3, breaking the Bobcat's four-game shutout streak in the process.
RECORDS: The Bees are now 3-3-2, 2-2-1 SUN, while the Bobcats are not 7-0-1, 5-0-0 SUN.
HOW IT HAPPENED: St. Thomas got on the board, scoring in the seventh and 36
th minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Twelve minutes into the second half, the Bobcats scored again, making it a 3-0 game.
SCAD answered two minutes later with a goal from
Ryan Holmes off an assist from
Daire Russell to come within two goals (3-1).
St. Thomas scored three more goals to go up 6-1, with the last in the 75
th minute.
Lewis Gamble went to cross the ball into the middle, and the Bobcat's goalie intercepted the ball but could not hold on to it, which allowed
Giovanny Lares to follow through with a goal in the 83
rd minute.
The last goal of the game came from
Daire Russell at the 86:24 mark to bring the score to 6-3.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: After totaling four shots in the first half, the Bees bounced back and outshot St. Thomas 11-9 in the second half, taking 15 shots, 12 of which were on goal.
Daire Russell led the offense with one goal and one assist for three points.
Ryan Holmes and
Giovanny Lares added one goal each.
Goalie
Connor Friel totaled seven saves in his 90 minutes of work.
