AVE MARIA, Fla. – The SCAD men's soccer team traveled to Ave Maria, Fla. to face the Gyrenes on Saturday and are coming home with a 2-1 win.
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 3-2-2, 2-1-1 SUN, while Ave Maria falls to 0-7-1, 0-4-0 SUN.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The game remained scoreless until just under 10 minutes into the second half when
Ryan Holmes found the back off the net off an assist from
Tim Rothe to give SCAD a 1-0 lead.
Ten minutes later, the Gyrenes answered with a goal of their own to bring the score to 1-1 with 25 minutes remaining in the game.
The Bees took the lead, and kept it, in the 71
st minute when
Giovanny Lares scored off an assist from
Lewis Gamble to earn the 2-1 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: SCAD totaled 12 shots (seven on goal) to Ave Maria's 10 shots (seven on goal) and had four corner kicks to the Gyrenes' two.
Ryan Holmes and
Giovanny Lares led the Bees with one goal each with
Tim Rothe and
Lewis Gamble adding one assist.
Goalie
Connor Friel tallied six saves in his 90 minutes of work.
