COCHRAN, Ga. – The No. 17 SCAD women's soccer team continues to impress as they held Middle Georgia State University scoreless, winning 4-0 Friday night.
RECORDS: The Bees are now 2-0 to start the season, while the Knights fall to 0-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Jule Stendebach played a diagonal ball for
Ines Sommer to find the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead in the 19
th minute.
Ines Sommer scored her second goal two minutes later when
Sam Wong made a run down the line and then crossed the ball in to end the first half with a 2-0 lead.
Just over eight minutes into the second half,
Berglind Baldursdottir received a pass near the top of the box and then played a slotted backside pass into an on-running
Ida Akesson, who touched the ball with her back foot and was able to hit a solid strike, past the goalkeeper to give the Bees a 3-0 lead.
Abbie Biddle found
Aleca Garcia Velaza over the free kick at the top of the box, where she was able to chip it over the goalkeeper to go up 4-0 with less than two minutes remaining in the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: The Bees' defense held the Knights to only five shots, none on goal, and limited Middle Georgia State to two corner kicks.
The Bees were led on offense by
Ines Sommer, who totaled two goals on six shots on goal and eight total shots.
Ida Akesson and
Aleca Garcia Velaza totaled one goal each, with Akesson tallying two shots on goal and Garcia Velaza one.
Berglind Baldursdottir totaled three shots, all of which were on goal.
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees return home to host the SCAD Coca-Cola Classic on September 2 and 4. SCAD's first game will be Saturday, September 2, at 1:00 p.m. against No. 24 Reinhardt University. Both games on September 2 will be at Memorial Stadium in Savannah, Ga.
