No. 17 Women’s Soccer Dominates in Season Opener

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The No. 17 SCAD women's soccer team dominated the season opener, winning 5-2 over No. 20 Campbellsville University Saturday night.
 
RECORDS: The Bees are now 1-0-0, while the Tigers open the season 0-1-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED? Campbellsville opened the scoring with an early goal in the sixth minute to go up 1-0.
 
Sydney Chura scored her first two goals of a hat trick, back-to-back at the 17:37 and 17:49 marks to give SCAD a 2-1 lead.
 
Not even two minutes later, Abigail Siddall beat a defender one-on-one to find the back of the net to go up 3-1 in the 20th minute.
 
The last goal in the first half came off a free kick from Berglind Baldursdottir from 40 yards into the upper 90 to give the Bees a 4-1 lead going into halftime.
 
Chura scored her third goal just under three minutes into the second half, giving SCAD a 5-1 lead.
 
In the 62nd minute, Campbellsville scored to come within three, but it would not be enough as the Bees' defense held the Tigers to only three more shots to earn the 5-2 win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: The Bees' defense shut down two 2022 First-Team All-Conference players, while goalie Katelynn Balsiger earned the win with six saves in her first collegiate start, playing all 90 minutes.
 
Sydney Chura totaled three goals on four shots, all on goal. Berglind Baldursdottir totaled three shots, two on goal and one goal, while Abigail Siddall tallied two shots, one goal on one shot on goal. Ida Akesson took one shot on goal.
 
DID YOU KNOW? Campbellsville won the Mid-South Conference Tournament last season.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees remain on the road to face No. RV Middle Georgia State University on Friday, August 25, at 6:00 p.m.
