No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse Stings No. 4 Cumberlands in the NAIA National Tournament

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 5 SCAD women's lacrosse team traveled to Southfield, Mich. to compete in the NAIA National Tournament where they played the No. 4 University of the Cumberlands in the quarterfinals, winning 16-15.
 
RECORDS: The Bees advance to 11-5 while the Patriots are now 16-3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Cumberlands started the scoring with two goals only 10 seconds apart. However, these were answered by three goals from SCAD. The first from Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Advertising and Branding), the second from Ainsley Jones (Harvard, Mass. / Graphic Design) assisted by De Caro as the Bees were a man down, and the third came from Keagan Plume (Glen Arm, Md. / Architecture) at the end of the first to bring the score to 3-2.
 
The Patriots opened the second quarter with three goals but was quickly followed by three goals from SCAD. Emma Roch (Savannah, Ga. / Fashion Marketing and Management) assisted by Olivia Jackson (York, Pa. / Fashion) scored at the 11:15 mark while Jones assisted by Plume scored at the 9:57 mark. While the team was a man up, Annise Berkeley (Massillon, Ohio / Architecture) was able to score again for the Bees. The Cumberlands got in one last goal, but De Caro was able to get two more in with one assist from Berkeley bringing the score to 8-6 going into the half.
 
In the third quarter, both teams traded goals with the Patriots scoring six goals and the Bees scoring four. De Caro scored first for SCAD followed only two minutes later by Isabel Verrier (Topsfield, Mass. / Interior Design). De Caro scored again at the 8:31 mark bringing the score to 11-7. Roch assisted by Verrier was able to score as the Bees last goal in the third while the Cumberlands scored to tie the score at 12-12 going into the fourth.
 
Berkeley, with the team a man up, scored the first goal of the fourth quarter with 11:49 on the clock to bring the score to 13-12. The Patriots were able to sneak in two consecutive goals before De Caro was able to find the net to tie the score again. In the last five minutes of the game, the Cumberlands scored again but De Caro responded with a goal at the 00:26 mark. With the score tied 15-15, Berkeley was able to score with only five second left on the clock to give SCAD the win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: De Caro led the offensive charge with a total of seven goals, one assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Berkeley totaled three goals and one assist to give her four points followed by Roch and Jones who both had two goals. Roch also had two ground balls and three caused turnovers with Jones taking control of one ground ball.
 
Goalie Lorna Fowles (Petaluma, Calif. / Animation) totaled seven saves, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers in her 60 minutes of work.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will continue to the semifinals on Thursday, May 4th at 5:00 p.m. against No. 1 Keiser University.
