No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse Takes Down No. 1 Keiser University in the SUN Championship Finals

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 5 SCAD women's lacrosse team won the Sun Conference Championships on Saturday. They played the undefeated team from No. 1 Keiser University winning 9-6.
 
RECORDS: The Bees advance to 10-5 while the Seahawks are now 15-1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD was the only team to score during the first. Annise Berkeley (Massillon, Ohio / Architecture) assisted by Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Advertising and Branding) scored at the 12:12 mark. The Bee's defense held Keiser to no goals in the first quarter which is the only time this has happened in their season.
 
Keiser was able to start the scoring of the second quarter at the 13:58 mark but was followed quickly by De Caro. The Seahawks scored two more goals before SCAD was able to tie the score at 3-3 with a goal from Clarke Haas (Pensacola, Fla. / Fashion Marketing and Management) going into the half.
 
The Bees held Keiser to only one goal in the third, while four goals were scored for SCAD. Emma Roch (Savannah, Ga. / Fashion Marketing and Management) scored the first goal followed by Haas assisted by De Caro to give the Bees the one-point lead. De Caro assisted by Isabel Verrier (Topsfield, Mass. / Interior Design) scored the third at the 4:14 mark and Berkeley was able to score a last-minute goal at the 00:06 mark to bring the score to 7-4 going into the last quarter.
 
The Seahawks scored the first goal of the fourth. SCAD scored their last two goals starting at the 9:53 mark from Roch assisted by De Caro and then again from Haas at the 7:52 mark. The Bees defense held tough throughout the whole game, but especially during the fourth. Keiser only scored one more goal at the 1:30 mark to give SCAD the Sun Conference Championship win 9-6.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Haas lead the team in goals with three followed by Berkeley, De Caro, and Roch all with two goals each.
 
De Caro had a total of three assists giving her five points followed by Verrier with one assist and one point.
 
Berkeley had the second highest number of ground balls (4) and had two caused turnovers.
 
Goalie Lorna Fowles (Petaluma, Calif. / Animation) made 12 saves, one caused turnover and a team high of five ground balls in her 60 minutes of work.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will travel to Southfield, Mich. to compete at the NAIA National Championship over Wednesday, May 3rd – Saturday, May 6th.
