SAVANNAH, Ga. – The SCAD men's lacrosse team opened its season with a 14-4 loss to No. 10 Webber International University.
RECORDS: The Bees are now 0-1, 0-1 AAC, while the Warriors improve with 2-0, 1-0 AAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Webber International opened the scoring just under a minute into the game to take a quick 1-0 lead. SCAD answered with a goal from
Chuck Ryan (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Fashion Design) off an assist from
Vihaan Patel (Alpharetta, Ga.) to tie the game at one-all.
Unfortunately, the Warriors scored four unanswered goals to end the first quarter with a 5-1 lead.
The Bees scored one goal –
Jordan Reeves (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada / Architecture), assist by Ryan – to Webber's two goals in the second quarter to go into the half down 7-2.
Theron Turnbull (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Architecture), off an assist from
Max Williams (Irmo, S.C. / Illustration), scored the first goal of the third quarter to come within four (7-3) at the 12:18 mark.
The Warriors scored two more goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth quarter before SCAD's
Lucas Martinez (Aurora, Ohio / Service Design) found the back of the net to bring the score to 12-4. Webber scored the game's last two goals to give the Warriors the 14-4 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Ryan led the Bees' offensive charge, totaling one goal and one assist for two points.
Martinez, reeves, and Turnbull totaled one goal each, while Williams and Patel added one assist. Martinez picked up a game-high five ground balls.
Bryant Aquino (Cincinnati, Ohio / Photography),
Luca Colafella (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Dramatic Writing), and
Evan Baker (Saint Augustine, Fla. / Furniture Design) had two caused turnovers each.
Goalie
Benny Goldberg (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Industrial Design) totaled 12 saves in his 60 minutes of work to go along with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will travel to No. 1 Reinhardt University on February 16 for a 5:00 p.m. match-up.
