No. 6 Women’s Soccer Picks Up 11th Shutout Win

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The No. 6 SCAD women's soccer team clinched the Sun Conference Regular Season Title with its 5-0 win over the visiting Warriors of Webber International.
 
RECORDS: The Bees are 15-1-1, 11-1-1 SUN, while the Warriors fall to 4-11-1, 3-9-1 SUN.
 
DID YOU KNOW? With this win, SCAD will finish the season as the Sun Conference Regular Season Champion for the first time since 2015.
 
HOW DID IT HAPPEN? The first goal of the game came when Jule Stendebach won the defensive ball in the midfield and sent the ball up the field to an approaching Ines Sommer, who fired it past the goalie to give the Bees a 1-0 lead.
 
Sydney Chura scored 15 seconds later when she got the ball on the run from Lane Lieberman to the left of the goal. Chura found the top left corner of the goal to make it a 2-0 game, a score that remained into halftime.
 
Ines Sommer scored her second goal of the game at the 65:43 mark when Sydney Chura beat her defender to get Sommer the ball on the right side of the goal. Sommer one-touched it past the challenging goalie to find the back of the net, on the bottom left, to go up 3-0.
 
Mia Gomez won the ball in front of the goal and was able to find Nina Otto on the right. Otto snuck it to the left of the goalie to make it a 4-0 game in the 87th minute.
 
The last goal of the game came when Ida Akesson crossed the ball in from the left side of the box into Mia Gomez, who fired it over the goalie's head into the top right corner of the net to give SCAD the 5-0 win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: The Bees outshot the Warriors, 22-9, with 13 of those shots going on goal.
 
Ines Sommer led the offensive charge with two goals, while Sydney Chura and Mia Gomez totaled one goal and one assist. Nina Otto added one goal, while Jule Stendebach, Lane Lieberman, and Ida Akesson tallied one assist each.
 
Goalie Katelynn Balsiger nabbed six saves in her 90 minutes of work.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees hit the road for the last SUN regular season game on Saturday, October 28. SCAD will face #13 Southeastern at 1:00 p.m.
