Women's Tennis Splits Matches in Season Opener

TAMPA, Fla. – The SCAD women's tennis team competed against St. Petersburg College and Hillsborough C.C. on Saturday.
 
RECORD: The Bees won against St. Petersburg and lost against Hillsborough starting their season off with a 1-1 record.

DOUBLES POINT: SCAD's first point came when the Bees won two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The number one team of Piccoliori and Ragona won 6-3 while the number two team of Konrad and Francina Puig Llompart (Palma de Mallorca, Spain / Interior Design) won 6-4.
 
The number three doubles team of Francine Voit (Boca Raton, Fla. / Interior Design) and Chloe Cobianchi (Bologna, Italy / Undeclared) were defeated 4-6.
 
SINGLES ACTION: Yue Yu (Dalian, China / Illustration) won 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 at number one singles, while Sofia Ragona (Turin, Italy / Luxury and Brand Management) won 6-3, 6-2 at number two singles.
 
At number three singles, Alessia Piccoliori (S.Cristina (BZ), Italy / Graphic Design) won 6-1, 6-2 with Lisa Konrad (Karlsruhe, Germany / Fashion) winning at number four singles with scores of 6-2, 7-5.
 
Britain Botsford (Delray Beach, Fla. / Film and Television) won in number five singles, 6-4, 6-3, giving SCAD the 6-1 win.
 
Lauren Ulrich (St. Louis, Mo. / Architecture) lost 0-6, 1-6 in the sixth singles spot.

DOUBLES POINT: Hillsborough was able to win the doubles point by overcoming number one, two and three doubles.
 
Piccoliori and Ragona lost at number one singles 3-6 while Konrad and Puig Llompart lost 2-6 at number two doubles. Yu and Botsford lost at number three doubles, 2-6.
 
SINGLES ACTION: Konrad lost 6-7 at number four singles while Caroline Lewis (Marietta, Ga. / Fashion Marketing and Management) lost 1-6, 0-6 at number five singles.
 
Cobianchi fell 1-6, 2-6 at number six singles.
 
Piccoliori unable to finish her match at number one singles with a score of 5-7, 1-1 unfinished with Puig Llompart also unable to finish her match at number three singles with a score of 0-6, 3-5 unfinished.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will travel to Salina, Kan. to compete at the NAIA Indoor National Championship hosted by Kansas Wesleyan on February 3rd.
