HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The SCAD women's lacrosse team traveled to Hilton Head, S.C. for a neutral site game against NCAA DIII Swarthmore College and lost 14-8 on Tuesday.
RECORDS: The Bees are now 4-2 overall while the Garnet are 4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Swarthmore started the scoring with a goal just 24 seconds into the game. SCAD answered three minutes later when
Hannah Smith (Vienna, Va. / Illustration) tied the game at one-all.
The first quarter ended with the Garnet scoring three goals to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.
Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Advertising and Branding) opened the second quarter with a goal at the 13:25 mark to cut Swarthmore's lead in half (4-2).
The Garnet scored two more goals to go up 6-2. Goals from Smith and
Tatum Crouch (Easton, Md. / Fashion Marketing and Management), assisted by
Sophia Milia (Birmingham, Mich. / Business of Beauty & Fragrance) brought the score to 6-4 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, both teams traded goals back and forth with
Keagan Plume (Glen Arm, Md. / Architecture) scoring two goals, the second coming at the 5:08 mark. Unfortunately, Swarthmore ended the third quarter with two goals to take a 10-6 lead into the final quarter.
Smith, off an assist from
Isabel Verrier (Topsfield, Mass. / Interior Design) scored the first goal of the fourth quarter with 14:34 on the clock to bring the score to 10-7.
The Garnet answered with four goals before
Clarke Haas (Pensacola, Fla. / Fashion Marketing and Management) scored the last goal of the game with just under a minute and a half remaining to bring the final score to 14-8.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Smith led the offensive charge with three goals and three points while Plume totaled two goals with Milia added two assists for two points each.
Crouch, Haas, and De Caro totaled one goal each while Verrier added one assist.
Smith had a team-high three ground balls while also adding two caused turnovers.
Julia Luff (Portsmouth, N.H. / Fibers) totaled three draw controls with Smith and De Caro adding two apiece.
Goalie
Tracy Richards (Poway, Calif. / Visual Effects) totaled 14 saves in her 60 minutes of work.
