LAURINBURG, N.C. – The No. 7 SCAD women's lacrosse team traveled to No. RV St. Andrews University on Wednesday and won 16-9 to give the Knights their first Appalachian Athletic Conference loss of the season.
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 5-2, 3-0 AAC while the Knights are now 2-5, 1-1 AAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD scored first, less than a minute into the competition when
Julia Luff (Portsmouth, N.H. / Fibers) found the back of the net to take a quick 1-0 lead. Another goal from Luff, off an assist from
Isabel Verrier (Topsfield, Mass. / Interior Design), made it 2-0 two minutes later.
St. Andrews responded with four unanswered goals to end the first quarter with a 4-2 lead.
Just over three minutes into the second quarter, the Knights scored again to go up 5-2 but SCAD answered with five goals of their own – Verrier,
Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Advertising and Branding),
Molly Wilson (Acworth, Ga. / Graphic Design), Luff and
Clarke Haas (Pensacola, Fla. / Fashion Marketing and Management) – to turn the tide and take a two-goal lead (7-5). St. Andrews came within one with just 38 seconds remaining in the first half (7-6).
Luff (3), Haas (2) and
Keagan Plume (Glen Arm, Md. / Architecture) totaled six goals in the third quarter to St. Andrews's one goal to take a 13-7 lead into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Bees outscored the Knights 3-2 to earn the 16-9 win. Plume (2) and Luff scored off assists from
Sophia Milia (Birmingham, Mich. / Business of Beauty & Fragrance) to clinch the win for SCAD.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Luff was had a big game, totaling seven goals and three assists for 10 points.
Milia totaled a game-high five assists for five points and tied a game-high four ground balls.
Haas and Plume tallied three goals each, with Haas adding one assist for four points. De Caro, Verrier and Wilson had one goal, apiece. Verrier totaled one assist as well.
Wilson totaled a team-high four ground balls with Plume and De Caro totaling three.
Goalie
Tracy Richards (Poway, Calif. / Visual Effects) totaled four saves in her 60 minutes of work.
