Big Third Quarter Leads to 15-7 Win for Women’s Lacrosse

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – A seven-goal third quarter allowed the SCAD women's lacrosse team to overcome NCAA DIII Curry College 15-7 at home on Thursday.
 
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 6-2 overall while the Colonels are now 0-5 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Curry struck first, scoring 45 seconds into the game. SCAD answered with a goal from Clarke Haas (Pensacola, Fla. / Fashion Marketing and Management) off an assist from Sophia Milia (Birmingham, Mich. / Business of Beauty & Fragrance) to knot the game at one-all with 4:50 remaining in the first quarter.
 
Another assist from Milia, this time to Isabel Verrier (Topsfield, Mass. / Interior Design) at the start of the second quarter, gave SCAD the 2-1 lead. Molly Wilson (Acworth, Ga. / Graphic Design) and Julia Luff (Portsmouth, N.H. / Fibers) scored at the 10:11 and 6:15 marks to give the Bees a 4-2 lead going into halftime.
 
In the third quarter, SCAD scored seven goals – Milia, Verrier, Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Advertising and Branding) (3), Luff, and Ainsley Jones (Harvard, Mass. / Graphic Design) – to the Colonels' three goals to take an 11-5 lead into the final quarter.
 
Brielle Bouchard (Atlantic Beach, Fla. / Fashion Marketing and Management) started the scoring for the Bees just over two minutes into the fourth quarter to go up 12-5.
 
Curry scored two more goals, but SCAD answered with three to end the game with the 15-7 win. Olivia Jackson (York, Pa. / Fashion) scored at the 10:17 mark off an assist from Darby Thomas (Easton, Md. / Social Strategy and Management), followed by De Caro and Mackenzie DeMott (Dix Hills, N.Y.) at 9:37 and 5:57, respectively.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Keagan Plume (Glen Arm, Md. / Architecture) tied a game-high five draw controls while Luff totaled three and Wilson and Bouchard added two each.
 
Meredith Oakley (West Hartford, Conn. / Illustration) had a game-high three caused turnovers and a team-high three ground balls on the day. Kambria Barry (Orlando, Fla. / Architecture) totaled two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Tracy Richards (Poway, Calif. / Visual Effects), De Caro, and Grace Boyer (Stevensville, Md. / Interior Design) added two ground balls as well.
 
De Caro totaled a game-high four goals to go along with two assists for six points. Milia had a game-high four assists and one goal for five points.
 
Luff and Verrier tallied two goals, with Luff adding an assist. Jones, Haas, DeMott, Wilson, Bouchard, and Jackson totaled one goal, with Thomas totaling one assist.
 
Goalie Richards totaled 10 saves in 45 minutes of work while Veronica Grega (York, Pa. / Fashion) captured three saves in 15 minutes.
