ATHENS, Tenn. – The No. 7 SCAD women's lacrosse team won 23-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference opener on the road Wednesday afternoon.
RECORDS: The Bees are now 2-1, 1-0 AAC while the Bulldogs are now 1-3, 0-1 AAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Less than a minute in the first quarter,
Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Advertising and Branding) found the back of the net off an assist from
Tatum Crouch (Easton, Md. / Fashion Marketing and Management) to take a quick 1-0 lead.
De Caro scored less than two minutes later to go up 2-0 while
Julia Luff (Portsmouth, N.H. / Fibers) on an assist from
Sophia Milia (Birmingham, Mich. / Business of Beauty and Fragrance) gave the Bees a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs scored their first, of two, goals with 9:32 on the clock in the first quarter.
SCAD answered with eight goals – Luff (2), Crouch (3),
Clarke Haas (Pensacola, Fla. / Fashion Marketing and Management) (2) and
Isabel Verrier (Topsfield, Mass. / Interior Design) – to take a 11-1 lead going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bees totaled seven goals from five different athletes –
Grace Wiley (Olathe, Kan. / Interior Design) (3),
Molly Wilson (Acworth, Ga. / Graphic Design),
Mackenzie DeMott (Dix Hills, N.Y. / Fashion), Verrier and De Caro – to take a 18-1 lead into the half.
De Caro opened the third quarter with a goal off an assist from
Ainsley Jones (Harvard, Mass. / Graphic Design) with 10:19 remaining in the quarter.
Three minutes later, Tennessee Wesleyan scored its last goal to bring the score to 19-2.
Jones, from Luff, scored the last goal in the third quarter to bring the score to 20-2 with one quarter remaining.
Keagan Plume (Glen Arm, Md. / Architecture), Luff and Haas off of assists form Crouch, Milia and Wilson, scored the last three goals of the game, in the fourth quarter, to earn the 23-2 win.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE: Luff and Crouch led the offense with Luff totaling four goals and two assists for six points and Crouch tallying three goals and three assists for six points.
Haas, Wiley and De Caro totaled three goals with Wiley adding one assist as Verrier and DeMott added two goals apiece.
Plume, Wilson and Jones had one goal with Wilson and Jones adding one assist as well.
Luff totaled a game-high six ground balls while
Emma Roch (Long Island, N.Y. / Fashion Marketing and Management) and
Grace Boyer (Stevensville, Md. / Interior Design) tallied three. Luff and Milia caused one turnover each.
The Bees totaled 20 draw controls with Plume totaling a game-high seven.
Hannah Smith (Vienna, Va. / Illustration) nabbed four while Wilson had two.

Veronica Grega (York, Pa. / Fashion) and
Kallie Collett (Voorhees, N.J. / Fashion Design) split time in the cage with Richards and Collett picking up one save apiece.
