No. 8 Women’s Lacrosse Opens Season with One-Goal Loss

MARIETTA, Ga. – The No. 8 SCAD women's lacrosse team opened the season at No. 3 Life University and lost 10-9 on Sunday.
 
RECORDS: The Bees are 0-1 while the Running Eagles are now 1-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Life opened the scoring with 8:55 remaining in the first quarter but SCAD scored three unanswered goals from Julia Luff (Portsmouth, N.H. / Fibers), Tatum Crouch (Easton, Md. / Fashion Marketing and Management) and Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Advertising and Branding) with Crouch's goal assisted by Sophia Milia (Birmingham, Mich. / Business of Beauty & Fragrance) to take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.
 
Unfortunately, the Bees did not score in the second quarter, but the Running Eagles scored three goals to go up 4-3 going into the half.
 
In the third quarter, Life scored four goals to SCAD's two – one by Olivia Jackson (York, Pa. / Fashion), assisted by Luff, and one from Crouch – as the Bees went into the fourth quarter down by three (8-5).
 
The Running Eagles scored the first goal of the fourth quarter, but the Bees answered with three goals as Crouch, Hannah Smith (Vienna, Va. / Illustration) and De Caro found the back of the net to bring the game to 9-8. With just under five minutes remaining in the game, Life scored its last goal and SCAD's last goal came with 1:40 remaining when Smith scored to end the game 10-9 in favor of Life.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Crouch led the offense for the Bees with three goals for three points.
 
De Caro totaled two goals while Smith totaled two goals and one assist.
 
Luff and Jackson totaled one goal each with Luff adding one assist as well. Luff led the team in ground balls with five and tied with De Caro for the top spot in caused turnovers with four.
 
Goalie Tracy Richards (Poway, Calif. / Visual Effects) had a big game, totaling 21 saves, just two saves shy of the single game record.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will return home to host Pfeiffer University on Februray 19 at 3:00 p.m.
