Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 8 SCAD women's tennis team defeated No. 9 William Carey University on Wednesday in the 2021 NAIA Women's National Championship to advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Bees started the day dropping the doubles point as
Haley Morrissey (Frisco, Texas / Animation) and
Hana Ahmed (Cairo, Egypt) fell 6-2 at number three doubles while
Yu Yue (Dalian, China / Illustration) and
Tova Tilk Tobrand (Gothenburg, Sweden / Industrial Design) lost 6-1 at number two doubles.
Priya Sukkanha (Nothaburi, Thailand / Fashion) and
Eika Johanna Weber (Oslo, Norway / Industrial Design) were down 2-4 when the point was decided.
SCAD went down 3-0 before Sukkanha dispatched her number one singles opponent 6-2, 6-4 to cut William Carey's lead to two (3-1).
Weber won the next point for the Bees to bring the score to 2-3 with her 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win at number three singles.
The match was tied at three-all when Morrissey took her number four singles opponent to three sets but ultimately won 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
At this point in the match, Yue was the last player still competing. After losing the first set 3-6, The Sun Conference Freshman of the Year dispatched her number two singles opponent 6-4, 6-0 to clinch the win for the Bees.
Tobrand and Ahmed lost 6-0, 7-5 and 6-0, 6-0 at numbers five and six singles, respectively.

SCAD will face No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett on Thursday, May 20 at 9:00am CT.
