Box Score QUICK STORY: The No. 6 ranked SCAD women's tennis team defeated No. 17 Ave Maria University 4-1 on Thursday morning to advance to The Sun Conference Championship Final.
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 6-1 overall while the Gyrenes are now 9-5.
DOUBLES ACTION: SCAD started the day picking up two wins in doubles to take a 1-0 lead going into singles action.
At number two doubles,
Yue Yu (Dalian, China / Illustration) and
Tova Tilk Tobrand (Gothenburg, Sweden / Industrial Design) dispatched their number two doubles opponents handedly, winning 6-0.
Priya Sukkanha (Nothaburi, Thailand / Fashion) and
Eika Johanna Weber (Oslo, Norway / Industrial Design) won 7-5 at number one doubles to clinch the doubles point.
Haley Morrissey (Frisco, Texas / Animation) and
Hana Ahmed (Cairo, Egypt) lost 6-0 in the number three doubles position.
SINGLES ACTION: With a 1-0 lead heading into singles, the Bees need three more points to earn the win and advance to the TSC Final.
Yue, at number two singles, won the first point after defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-2 to give the Bees a 2-0 lead. Ahmed, fell 6-1, 6-0 at number six singles to bring the score to 2-1.
Weber gave SCAD another point and the 3-1 lead when she dispatched her number four singles opponent 6-2, 6-4 and Sukkanha clinched the match, defeating her number one singles opponent 6-2, 6-4.
Morrissey, playing in the number three spot, was up 4-6, 6-0, 2-1 when the match was called while Tobrand was up 6-1, 3-2 at number five singles.
