Men’s Lacrosse Drops 15-11 Decision on Senior Day

QUICK GOAL: The SCAD men's lacrosse team dropped a tough 15-11 decision to The University of the Cumberlands at home Friday, on Senior Day.
 
RECORDS: The Bees are now 3-2, 3-2 AAC while the Patriots are 5-5, 4-2 AAC.
 
SENIORS: Prior to the start of the competition, the six graduating members of the men's lacrosse team were honored – Elliot Fish (Toronto, Ontario, Canada / Film and Television)Derek Amoth (Hopkinton, N.H. / Industrial Design)Sean Parmer (South Elgin, Ill. / Architecture)Tyler Hunsaker (Draper, Utah / Film and Television)JT Smith (West End, N.C. / User Experience (UX) Design) and Wolf Zachar (Springfield, Va. / Industrial Design).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Bees opened the scoring when Fish found the back of the net at the 11:11 mark off an assist from Michael Mowers (Savannah, Ga.).
 
The Patriots scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter.
 
Zachar brought the score withing one (3-2) off an assist from Fish with 3:14 on the clock.
 
With one second remaining in the half, Cumberlands scored to go up 4-2 at the conclusion of the first quarter. The Patriots continued their scoring trend with back-to-back goals to open the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead.
 
Zachar found the back of the net at the 9:30 mark while Parmer scored back-to-back to bring the score within one (6-5). Zachar tied the game off an assist from Mowers with 5:26 remaining in the half but Cumberlands scored at the 11 second mark to take a 7-6 lead into halftime.
 
The Patriots outscored the Bees 3-1 in the third quarter to go up 10-7 heading into the fourth. SCAD's lone goal came from Fish at the 1:20 mark.
 
Banks Maynard (Harrisburg, N.C. / Animation) opened the scoring in the fourth quarter to bring SCAD within two goals (10-8).
 
One minute later, the Patriots scored again to increase the lead to three (11-8). Dalton Rice (Palm Coast, Fla. / Production Design) and Zachar scored back-to-back to cut the lead to one but it would not be enough as Cumberlands scored four more goals to SCAD's one, from Amoth, to clinch the 15-11 win.
 
BOX SCORE: Zachar led the offense with four goals and one assist to tie a game-high five points. Fish totaled two goals and one assist for three points while Mowers added three assists for three points.
 
Parmer totaled two goals while Maynard, Rice and Amoth tallied one with Patrick Aherne (Charleston, S.C. / Animation) picking up one assist.
 
Smith dominated the face offs, winning 20 of 29 and picking up a game-high 13 ground balls. Maynard and Dylan Doremus (Milford, N.J. / Graphic Design) totaled caused two turnovers each.
 
Goalie Benny Goldberg (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Industrial Design) totaled 12 saves in his 60 minutes of work.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees hit the road to take on No. 1 Reinhardt on Thursday, April 8 at 6:00 p.m.
