Close Game Ends in Favor of Men’s Lacrosse

QUICK GOAL: The SCAD men's lacrosse team hosted Montreat College on Monday and won 11-9.
 
RECORDS: The Bees improve to 3-1, 3-1 AAC while the Cavaliers are now 1-9, 1-3 AAC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD took an early 2-0 lead when Wolf Zachar (Springfield, Va. / Industrial Design) and Banks Maynard (Harrisburg, N.C. / Animation) found the back of the net off assists from Elliot Fish ().
 
Montreat cut the lead in half when they scored at the 8:55 mark (2-1) but not even a minute later, Michael Mowers (Savannah, Ga.) scored to give the Bees a 3-1 lead.
 
The Cavaliers scored on more goal in the first quarter as the Bees led 3-2 going into the second quarter.
 
Montreat opened the second quarter scoring four goals to go up 6-3 before Fish scored with 4:14 remaining in the half to bring the score to 6-4. Sean Parmer (South Elgin, Ill. / Architecture) scored the last goal of the half to bring the Bees to within one (6-5) going into halftime.
 
Fish, off an assist from Mowers, tied the game at six-all at the 10:36 mark in the third quarter. With 50 seconds left to go in the quarter, Zachar found the back of the net off an assist from Mowers to give the Bees their first lead (7-6) since the second quarter, a lead SCAD never relinquished.
 
Montreat scored the first and last three goals of the fourth quarter but it was not enough as SCAD scored four goals of their own from Mowers, Parmer and Fish (2), to clinch the 11-9 win.
 
BOX SCORE: Goalie Benny Goldberg (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Industrial Design) earned the W with six saves in his 60 minutes of work.
 
On the offensive side, Fish lead the Bees with four goals and three assists for a game-high seven points.
 
Mowers totaled two goals and three assists for five points while Parmer and Zachar totaled two goals each. Maynard rounded out the scoring for SCAD with one goal as well.
 
JT Smith (West End, N.C. / User Experience (UX) Design) went 15-22 at face off while also picking up a game-high nine ground balls. Patrick Aherne (Charleston, S.C. / Animation) and Parmer totaled three ground balls each while Maynard totaled two.
 
Aherne, Parmer, Dylan Doremus (Milford, N.J. / Graphic Design), Goldberg, Dalton Rice (Palm Coast, Fla. / Production Design) and Kyle Beckmann (Murphy, Texas / Visual Effects) each tallied one caused turnover.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees remain at home for their final home contest on Friday, April 2, at 1:00 p.m. against the University of the Cumberlands. Friday's game will also be Senior Day.
