QUICK GOAL: The SCAD men's lacrosse team returned to action after a year-long hiatus on Friday with a home-opening, 10-9 win over Webber International University.
RECORDS: The Bees are 1-0 to open the season while the Warriors fall to 2-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD opened up the game with three back-to-back goals from
Wolf Zachar (Springfield, Va. / Industrial Design),
Seth Leister (Palm Coast, Fla. / User Experience (UX) Design) and
Banks Maynard (Harrisburg, N.C. / Animation).
Webber answered with two goals of their own, to come within one (3-2) with 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Neither team scored until Maynard found
Sean Parmer (South Elgin, Ill. / Architecture) at the 3:35 mark to take a 4-2 lead going into the second quarter.
The Warriors scored three goals before
Elliot Fish (Toronto, Ontario, Canada / Film & Television) found the net with 9:20 remaining in the first half to knot the game at five-all. Unfortunately, Webber scored the last goal of the second quarter to take a 7-6 lead into halftime.
SCAD and Webber traded goals back and forth to open the third quarter with Zachar and Fish scoring the Bees' two goals at the 14:19 and 3:45 marks, respectively to keep the game tied.
With less than two minutes on the clock, the Warriors scored two goals to take a 9-7 lead into the final quarter.
The Bees dominated the fourth quarter with a man-up goal from Zachar at 8:39 to bring SCAD within one (9-8).
A behind-the-back shot from
Michael Mowers (Savannah, Ga. / Film & Television) just over a minute later, off an assist from Leister, tied the game for the third and final time.
Zachar gave the Bees' their final lead, a lead that held, off an assist from Fish with 5:05 remaining on the clock to clinch the 10-9 win.
BOX SCORE: Zachar led the offensive charge with and game-high four goals and one assist for five points. Fish tallied two goals and one assist for three points.
Leister, Mowers, Maynard and Parmer all totaled one goal with Leister and Maynard adding in two assists each.
JT Smith (West End, N.C. / User Experience (UX) Design) went 16-21 on face offs and nabbed a game-high 11 ground balls.
Patrick Aherne (Charleston, S.C. / Animation) caused two turnovers.
Benny Goldberg (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Industrial Design) was big in the cage, with 11 saves in his 60 minutes of work.
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees return to action tomorrow, March 20 at 4:00p.m. when SCAD hosts Point University.
