No. 25 Women’s Soccer Advances to SUN Semifinal with Win Over Webber

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 25 ranked SCAD women's soccer team defeated Webber University 4-2 at Memorial Stadium on Sunday and will advance to the Sun Conference (SUN) Semifinal on Tuesday, November 9.

  • The Bees are now 12-5-1 overall.
  • The Warriors end their season with a 10-6-1 record.

  • This is the first time since 2014 that SCAD has advanced to the SUN semifinals.
HAT TRICK
  • Sydney Chura (Milford, Mich.) tallied three goals in SCAD's 4-2 win.
  • This is Chura's first hat trick of her collegiate career.
  • With these goals, Chura totals 18 goals this season and nine assists for a team-high 45 points. This places her first in points in a single season and second in goals in a single season in the SCAD record book.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chura opened the scoring with back-to-back goals in the 31st and 40th minutes to give the Bees a 2-0 lead.
  • Ines Sommer (Lisbon, Portugal / Film and Television) picked up the assist on the first goal while Jenny Caracheo (Royse City, Texas/ Luxury and Fashion Management) and Sam Wong (Fort Worth, Texas / Interior Design) assisted on the second goal.
  • Neither team scored for the remainder of the half and SCAD went into half time with a 2-0 lead.
  • Just over three minutes into the second half, Abigail Siddall (Plymouth, Mich. / Film and Television), off an assist from Sommer, to give the Bees a 3-0 lead.
  • A minute later, Chura scored her last goal as she broke away from the defense and found the back of the net to go up 4-0.
  • The Warriors answered with their first goal less than a minute later at the 50:16 mark. Five minutes later, Webber cut the lead in half, but it was not enough as the Bees won 4-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Bees defense held Webber to no shots in the first half and only allowed four shots on goal in the second.
  • Chura led SCAD with 16 shots, 12 on goal with three goals.
  • Siddall and Wong totlaed seven shots (five on goal) and five shots (four on goal) respectively.
  • Sommer totaled two assists while Caracheo and Wong adding one each.
  • Goalie Paige Hickman (Aurora, Colo. / Animation) nabbed two saves in her 33:29 minutes of work.

  • The Bees will travel to No. 9 Southeastern on Tuesday, November 9 for the Sun Conference Semifinal.
