No. 1 Women’s Lacrosse Continues to Dominate

QUICK SCORE: The No. 1 SCAD women's lacrosse team continues to show its dominance as the Bees defeated the visiting Gyrenes from Ave Maria 19-5 on Saturday.

RECORDS: The Bees are now 3-0 to open the season while the Gyrenes are now 0-1 overall.

DID YOU KNOW? This is the third consecutive game in which the Bees scored 19 or more goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED: SCAD opened the scoring early on in the first half when Sydney Knego (Potomac Falls, Va. / Advertising and Branding) found the back of the net at the 27:57 mark.
Harper Barth (Culver City, Calif. / Advertising and Branding) followed by Knego (2) gave the Bees an early 4-0 lead with 26:21 remaining in the half.

Ave Maria scored back to back goals to cut SCAD's lead in half (4-2) but the Bees answered with a 7-1 scoring run – Mackenzie DeMott (Dix Hills, N.Y. / Fashion), Mae Dougherty (Cumberland, Maine / Interior Design), Sophia Milia (Birmingham, Mich. / Business of Beauty and Fragrance), Lily McCormick (Birmingham, Ala. / Film and Television), Madeline Collins (Charlotte, N.C.), Grace Boyer( Stevensville, Md. / Interior Design) and Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Fashion Marketing and Management) – to end the first-half with a 11-3 lead.

SCAD scored the first eight goals – Jordan Mitchell (Tualatin, Ore. / Photography), De Caro, DeMott, Kambria Barry (Orlando, Fla. / Interior Design), L. McCormick, Knego and Tatum Crouch (Easton, Md. / Fashion Marketing and Management) – of the second half, with the last coming with just over three minutes remaining in the game to go up 19-3.

The Gyrenes scored the last two goals of the game to ultimately drop the game 19-5.

BOX SCORE: Knego tied a game-high four goals to lead the offense. The senior added two assists for six points with a gam high eight draw controls to go along with one ground ball.

L. McCormick, De Caro, Dougherty and DeMott totaled two goals each with De Caro and DeMott totaling one assist as well.

Seven players totaled one goal each with Mitchell adding three assists for four points while Collins and Milia added two assists each.

De Caro and Crouch tallied three draw controls with Mitchell adding two. Boyer picked up a team-high four ground balls to go along with her one goal.

Goalies Tracy Richards (Poway, Calif. / Visual Effects) and Haley McCullough (Lititz, Pa. / Illustration) split time in the cage and Richards nabbed nine saves while McCullough totaled seven.

WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees remain home to host No. 4 Keiser University on Sunday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m.
