QUICK GOAL: The No. 1 ranked SCAD women's lacrosse team opens the regular season with a dominating 23-13 win over No. 2 Benedictine College.
RECORDS: The Bees are 1-0 to start the season while the Ravens are now 0-1.
DID YOU KNOW? SCAD ended last season with an 18-12 win over Benedictine in the NAIA National Invitational Championships. It was the Bees third consecutive NAIA National Title.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Ravens opened the scoring game with the first goal, but the Bees answered shortly after with a goal of their own. Both teams traded goals until Benedictine took a 4-2 lead but SCAD went on a 4-2 run to tie the game at six-all. Four minutes later – at the four-minute mark –
Sydney Knego (Potomac Falls, Va. / Advertising and Branding) scored off an assist from
Allison Thierry (Stevensville, Md. / Interior Design) to give the Bees their first lead of the game, a lead in which SCAD held for the rest of the game.
At halftime, the score was 11-8, SCAD and in the second half the Bees totaled 12 goals to the Ravens' five to earn the 23-13 win.
BOX SCORE: Knego led the scoring effort with five goals and four assists while
Mackenzie DeMott (Dix Hills, N.Y. / Fashion) totaled four goals.
Thierry and
Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Fashion Marketing and Management) totaled five points each with Thierry tallying three goals and two assists while De Caro had four assists and one goal.
In total, SCAD had 10 athletes score:
Sophia Milia (Birmingham, Mich. / Business of Beauty & Fragrance) - three goals, one assist;
Jordan Mitchell (Tualatin, Ore. / Photography) – two goals, two assists;
Tatum Crouch (Easton, Md. / Fashion Marketing and Management) - two goals;
Grace Boyer (Stevensville, Md. / Interior Design) – one goal, one assist;
Taylor Rosenfeld (Nanuet, N.Y. / User Experience (UX) Design) – one goal;
Keagan Plume (Glen Arm, Md. / Undeclared) – one goal.
Goalie
Tracy Richards (Poway, Calif. / Visual Effects) had a standout day and was the only goalie in the cage for the Bees picking up 11 saves and four ground balls.
Knego added 10 draw controls while Crouch and Mitchell added six and five, respectively. Crouch also led the team in caused turnovers with four of the team's 15.
