QUICK STORY: The No. 1 ranked SCAD women's lacrosse team is advancing to the NAIA National Invitational Championship Final for the third year in-a-row after defeating No. 5 Keiser 17-8 on Friday night.
RECORDS: The Bees are now 13-1 while the Seahawks finish their season with a 14-5 overall record.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Bees opened the game with a 3-2 lead after
Jordan Mitchell,
Mackenzie DeMott and
Sydney Knego found the back of the cage with DeMott's coming off a pass from Mitchell.
After Keiser's second goal, to bring the score to 3-2, the Bees scored seven goals – Knego (4), DeMott,
Allison Thierry and Sophia MIlia – to take a 10-2 lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the half.
Both teams scored two more goals in the first-half with SCAD's coming from
Mae Dougherty and
Harper Barth assisted by Milia and Mitchell, respectively, to give SCAD a 12-4 lead into halftime.
Knego scored the first goal of the second half just over one minute into play with Barth adding a second goal not even 30 seconds later to go up 14-4.
The Seahawks scored four of the remaining seven goals with Dogiallo (2) and
Aly De Caro picking up the remaining three to give the Bees the 17-8 win.
BY THE NUMBERS: Knego led the way for the Bees with a game-high six goals to go with two assists. The junior also added a game-high eight draw controls.
Mitchell totaled one goal and five assists for six points while Dowgiallo, Barth and DeMott added two goals each. Dowgiallo tallied two assists with Thierry, De Caro, Milia and Dougherty tallying one goal. Milia and Dougherty totaled two assists and one assist, respectively.
Morgan Willett totaled a game-high nine ground balls while
Olivia Stahl caused a game-high five turnovers with
Emma Devereaux adding four. Stahl also totaled six ground balls with
Katie Rowell adding four.
Goalie
Maggie Lortz had a big game, nabbing eight saves and totaling a save percentage of .615 in 34:50 minutes of work.
Tracy Richards totaled one save.
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will face No. 2 Benedictine in the 2019 NAIA National Invitational Championship Final on Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. SCAD will be looking to win its third-straight Championship.
