Women’s Lacrosse Stings Gyrenes

QUICK SCORE: The No. 1 ranked women's lacrosse team traveled to No. RV Ave Maria Saturday and won 25-8.
 
RECORDS: The Bees are now 6-1 while Ave Maria is now 5-4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED?  SCAD's Drew Dowgiallo (2), Sydney Knego (2) and Harper Barth combined for the first five goals of the game with the last coming from Dowgiallo at the 22:40 mark.
 
Ave Maria scored their first goal just over a minute later to come within four. SCAD answered with two more goals (Grace Boyer and Aly De Caro) to increase the Bees' lead to six (7-1) and th Gyrenes scored again at the 18:57 mark.
 
The Bees increased their lead to nine (11-2) with four goals by Jenna Nabridge, Boyer and Knego (2) with the last coming at 14:34.
 
SCAD scored five more goals to Ave Maria's four to go into the half with a 16-6 lead.
 
The Bees' defense held the Gynrenes to only two goals in the second half while scoring nine – Knego (2), Dowgiallo (2), Mae Dougherty, Barth, Jordan Mitchell (2) and Mackenzie DeMott – to earn the 25-8 win.
 
BOX SCORE: Knego led the Bees with a game-high eight goals and two assists for a game-high 10 points. The junior also added 10 draw controls and one ground ball.
 
Dowgiallo and Barth totaled four goals with Dowgiallo adding a game-high four assists for eight points and Barth tallying one assist for five points.
 
Mitchell scored three goals and tied the game-high four assists for seven points. She was three for three in shots and totaled eight draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Boyer scored two goals while Dougherty, DeMott, Nabridge and De Caro added one each.
 
Goalies Maggie Lortz, Tracy Richards and Liv Vieira shared time in the cage with Lortz and Vieira nabbing one save each.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bee remain on the road to take on No. 5 Keiser University on Sunday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m.
