QUICK SCORE: The No. 14 SCAD Savannah women's tennis team defeated No. 19 Cumberlands (Ky.) 9-0 on Tuesday in the first round of the NAIA National Championships. With this win the Bees will now take on No. 3 Xavier (La.) on Wednesday.
RECORDS: SCAD Savannah is now 11-5 on the season while Cumberlands ends the season with a 10-11 record.
DOUBLES ACTION: The Bees started out strong, sweeping all three doubles matches.
Camille Gbaguidi and Valerie Droop won 8-6 at number one doubles while Johanna Weber and
Karina Rovira won 8-1 at number two.
At number three doubles,
Julia Albuquerque and Nicole Katzarkov won a close 9-7 match.
SINGLES ACTION: The momentum from doubles carried over into singles as SCAD continued to dominate winning the remainder of the matches.
Gbaguidi won 6-1, 6-4 at number one singles while Droop won 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 at number two.
Weber, at number three singles won 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 with Rovira winning 6-4, 6-3 at number four singles.
Albuquerque and Katzarkov won 6-3, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-2 at numbers five and six singles, respectively.
