SAVANNAH, Ga. – The SCAD Savannah men's and women's cross country teams are excited for the 2018 NAIA National Championships at the end of the week.
The race will take place on Friday, November 16 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at 10:00 a.m.
The men's team won its fourth-consecutive Sun Conference Championship to earn the automatic bid to the National Championships. The Bees finished the race with 29 points with St. Thomas finishing in second with 82 points.
Freshman
Bernhard Obrecht won the Individual Title with a time of 26:27 (5:19 pace). His time was 19 seconds faster than teammate
Max Groff who took second.
The women's team won its fifth TSC Championship in six years to qualify for the 2018 NAIA National Championships. The Bees won with 43 points while St. Thomas finished in second with 47 points.
Jessy Scarpone and
Lemi Wutz finished hand-in-hand to take first and second, respectively.
Head Coach
Patrick Reagan was named both the Men's and Women's Coach of the Year while Obrecht was named the Men's Freshman of the Year.
According to Coach Reagan, "we are honored and excited to be representing The Sun Conference at the NAIA XC Championships in 2018. Both of our programs have been disciplined and committed to the training process throughout this season. We are approaching the NAIA XC Championships healthy and ready to compete at a high level"
